Dr Sharad Paul
A short biography
Sharad P. Paul was born England in 1966, but grew up in India. He has a busy medical practice specializing in skin cancer surgery. Sharad is a Senior Lecturer in Skin Cancer at the University of Queensland, Australia and a Senior Lecturer in Surgery (hon.) at Auckland University, New Zealand. He also holds a Masters in Medical Law from the University of Glasgow, and has served on the National Commission of UNESCO.
He is the man behind the Baci Group which includes Baci Lounge, an award-winning independent bookstore/café; Baci Cosmetologie, a skin care company that has developed Mikanis, a skin care range especially designed for brown skin; and Baci Foundation, a charity which runs literacy and mentoring programmes for disadvantaged children.
A writer of literary fiction, Sharad's first novel, Cool Cut, was published by Picador in 2007 and his second novel, To Kill a Snow Dragonfly was published by 4th Estate in 2012.
Sharad was featured in articles titled Renaissance Man, by NZ Herald Canvas magazine and Polymath, by GOOD magazine. In 2008, TIME magazine called him Open Heart Surgeon. In 2012, he was a finalist for the New Zealander of the Year award.
Sharad served as a Trustee of the Centre for Compassion in Healthcare. A new surgical technique he has developed has been feted internationally as the first new original skin grafting technique published in over a century. The 'halo grafting' technique was published in Dermatologic Surgery in Jan 2010 and presented at the Nordic Plastic Surgery Congress in June 2010.
